“ply/would series” 2011-present

There is an abundance of scrap wood and various deposits of “precious” materials in Jon Eastman’s studio. The work being shown in this exhibit arose from that and has been a continuing series since.

Jon approaches each work as if it is a puzzle being created, solved then created simultaneously. As each piece begins to “fit” visually and conceptually, the compositions reveal themselves to completion. They present themselves as an image and an object at the same time making it an elusive task to sense them as an image on surface or an object in space. They are completely intriguing and wonderful to view and experience many times over. I imagine these could be maquettes for large scale projects yet to be realized. The artist has for a long time taken inspiration from the Russian Constructivists who to this day continue to leave their legacy and impact on the art world.   E. B.K.
