My goal is to create paintings that depict mental shifts, growth, vulnerability, and change. These paintings are acts of self-examination.

I begin with an action (a line, a color, a field, a mark).
I make a second action , and so on, which sometimes destroys the previous  action. Sometimes it furthers the work.

I am looking for the stories I tell myself, at what I find too comfortable, what I return to again and again (what I already know I can do) and I try to eliminate them.

It is an imperfect process that causes me anxiety but allows for the creation of paintings that surprise me. -M.B.
