Tim Wengertsman | Exhibition Archive: August 22 to September 23, 2012
During August 22 to September 23, 2012 the folks at The Grove business/design collaborative have been kind enough to allow an exhibit of wood cut prints by artist Tim Wengertsman. Tim is that part of the Punk subculture that speaks out against racism, homophobia, social injustice, and gets on with the day to day need to make art and music and ends meet. Each piece is printed on Japanese mulberry paper and is pulled from a carved block after hand burnishing the inked block. What is striking about these pieces other than the frankness of them, is the large size and detail that the artist is able to achieve on most of them. And if that wasn’t enough, all of the images are carved in reverse to produce what the viewer sees on paper.
The images shown on this page (below) are the same as the actual pieces up on view at The Grove in New Haven Connecticut.
“…there is no standard of what art should look like,
there is no standard of how people should look,
there is no standard of what we should like. Do what you want.
I want to give my subculture a voice.” Tim
