Jennifer Knaus | Paintings

On view June 30 – July 5, 2014

EBK Gallery [small works].
218 Pearl St.
Hartford, CT

The images in my paintings I would say are a playful combination of three concerns, or better yet, passions: portraiture, art history, and nature. My back yard is beautiful chaos, and this inspires me. I am in love with northern renaissance and still life paintings from the 17 the century, and this inspires me. When I begin a painting I will usually start with myself or with a friend or with child hood photos from my family. These images get “taken apart” and are often re-assembled with other things. My desire is to personalize the idealized notions of beauty and importance, with a touch of humor and a bit of absurdity. J.K.
