CT ArtList | EBK Gallery [May 15 – June 30 2013]

CT ArtList Selections
(Exhibition archive:  May / June 2013)

In collaboration with the art web site CT Art List we are very pleased to have selected artworks from the artists hosted on  the CT Art List site. These young  and very accomplished artists have produced some great pieces which are quite affordable for the art collector or soon to be art collector. Please feel free to call, email or visit to see these wonderful pieces of artwork.

“This will be CT ArtList’s first curated show in a commercial gallery setting. Of the six artists selected 5 have M.F.A. degrees, and 4 attended Connecticut State Universities. This group of artists is a clear reflection of CT ArtList’s mission of providing exposure to working, professional artists in the state who are immensely qualified, yet often under-exposed. We would like to extend our thanks to The EBK Gallery for presenting a professional caliber exhibition of work by CT ArtList artists.”   M. Marden

Tracy Powers

About the Artist

Tracy Powers of Wolcott, CT. has an M.F.A. in Painting from Western Connecticut State University, and is a member of First Street Gallery in NYC. Powers is an adjunct professor of Art History at Naugatuck Valley Community College.
“I’ve lived in CT for 15 years, ten years in Wolcott. I’ve live in CT longer than anywhere else in my life! (I grew up in The middle of nowhere in Massachusetts). I just had my first solo exhibition titled “Utopia” at First Street Gallery in September 2012. I won a Weber painting prize at CT + 6, a juried exhibition up now at West Hartford Art League. My work is in private collections in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
My work? I guess I’m a thrill junkie. Translating the chaotic atmosphere of an amusement park into a painting has inspired me for years. The duality of artificial construction and natural environment, of nauseating movement and quiet contemplation, existing in a chaotic atmosphere with horrible music, angry mobs, and fried dough. What’s not to like?

Chris Cox

About the Artist

Chris Cox grew up in Somers, CT and graduated in 2011 from Eastern Connecticut State University. His sculptures are made to imply landscapes and landmasses that create a stage for concepts such as communication, miscommunication, and urbanization. Chris’ inspirations come from the conflicting architecture that exists between rural and urban areas and the interaction between the people and the places they occupy. The majority of the materials in his work are recycled from the institutions in which he works. Chris Cox currently lives in Colchester, CT and works at The Wadsworth Atheneum and Real Art Ways, both in Hartford, CT.

Jana Ireijo

About the Artist

Jana Ireijo of Westport CT. grew up in Hololulu, HI and received her M.F.A. from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Recently she has exhibited in a two-person show at The Mercurial Gallery in Danbury, CT. as well as one of the 2013 SOLOS artists at the Westport Arts Center. She says, “”My paintings are a clash of ’80’s nostalgia and disparate pop images. A posh woman stares out from the canvas; seeking attention, but remaining distant. Bright lights and flashy distractions sooth the chattering voices of her mind.”
